Specialty Tours

Our tours run each summer (December–March), specializing in the northern half of the South Island.

Choose from preset itineraries of 7, 10 or 14 days, each designed to showcase the best local landscapes, wildlife and hidden gems. We’ll accommodate sensible variations where possible to suit group interests and pace.

What to expect

  • Local-focused routes: less tourist-tread, more behind-the-scenes access across Hurunui, Kaikoura, Marlborough, Nelson and Westland. Think tucked-away bays, family-run vineyards and stories you won’t hear from the highway.

  • Small-group, guided experience: expert local guides, comfortable transport and flexible daily plans that bend to weather and the mood of the group.

  • Mix of activities: short walks, dramatic coastal views, food and wine tastings, wildlife encounters (seabirds, seals, sometimes whales) and cultural stops—tailored to season and group ability.

  • Practical planning: clear packing notes, fitness-level guidance and sensible options for dietary or mobility needs.

Itineraries

  • 7-day: Highlights Loop — a compact introduction to the region’s top sights and tastes. Great if you want a rich snapshot without rushing.

  • 10-day: Deeper Dive — builds on the highlights with extra time for off-the-beaten-track spots, a longer wildlife outing and a few unhurried food and wine experiences.

  • 14-day: Immersion — the full deal. More remote coastal stretches, extended walks, deeper cultural engagement and leisure days to soak it all in.

Sample day (typical)

  • Morning: coastal drive with short scenic walk and wildlife viewing.

  • Midday: picnic or café lunch in a small town; optional food-tasting stop.

  • Afternoon: vineyard or artisan visit, light activity (e.g. easy walk, cultural talk).

  • Evening: relaxed group dinner at a local favorite or free evening to explore independently.

Practical details

  • Group size: small, usually 8–14 travelers to keep things personal and flexible.

  • Fitness: activities suit a moderate fitness level; most walks are 30–90 minutes over easy-to-mixed terrain. We’ll advise per itinerary.

  • What to bring: layered clothing (coastal weather changes fast), sturdy walking shoes, sunhat, rain layer, reusable water bottle and camera/binoculars.

  • Accessibility: we’ll discuss mobility needs at booking and adapt where possible; some remote stops may have limited access.

  • Dietary needs: catered for with advance notice.

Why travel with us?

Local guides who actually live here, curated experiences beyond the usual stops, and a relaxed pace that leaves space for surprise — the kind that makes a week feel like a proper break and two weeks feel like a revelation.

Group Events

New Zealand has secret hideaways in spades — perfect for your next get-together, whether it’s romantic, restorative or ruthlessly productive.

Weddings

  • Exchange vows with mountains, beaches or native bush as your backdrop. Intimate lodges, private islands and boutique vineyard venues offer everything from barefoot ceremonies to black-tie soirées.

Group retreats

  • Recharge the team, tribe or book club in off-grid lodges and eco-resorts. Think guided hikes, yoga at dawn, communal kitchens and cosy common rooms that spark real conversation (and the odd marshmallow roast).

Conferences

  • Trade conference centre hum for inspiring seclusion. Venues come equipped for presentations, breakout sessions and catered meals — plus the kind of downtime that makes ideas bloom.

Why New Zealand works for big groups

  • Intimate scale with dramatic scenery: vast landscapes don’t mean crowds. Many properties sit on their own headlands, valley bottoms or islands, giving groups a rare sense of exclusivity.

  • Versatile accommodation: from multi-bedroom homesteads and eco-lodges to boutique luxury villas and converted woolsheds, there’s space and character to suit different budgets and vibes.

  • Fresh-air activities on tap: guided hikes, private boat charters, vineyard tours, heli-biking, fly-fishing and waka experiences — organizers can build itineraries that balance downtime with unforgettable adventure.

  • Farm-to-table hospitality: many secluded venues work with local producers or have in-house chefs, so you can feast on seasonal, regional produce tailored to your group.

  • Easy logistics for planners: despite their remoteness, many group-friendly sites offer event services, on-site staff, gear hire, and transport links (small plane or helicopter transfers, private ferries, or shuttle options).

Tell us your plans or have your event planner reach out to us for more information. We’ll match your vision with the perfect secluded spot — and maybe a cheeky good coffee on arrival.
